One of the most joyous times in a Catholic’s faith journey is receiving the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ for the first time. Children are especially excited to receive their First Holy Communion as they have seen their family members receiving this sacrament at Mass and are eager to receive the “bread and wine.”
Children usually prepare for First Holy Communion during second grade, after having already received a year of religious education. Children wishing to receive First Eucharist must be attending weekend Masses in our parish and St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School, the Parish School of Religion or an approved home-school program. They also participate in the parish’s First Holy Communion preparation program during the late winter and early spring months.
Our parish celebrates First Holy Communion each year during the Easter season. Children may receive First Holy Communion with the parish’s “class” or during another Mass in our parish.
